Ghumr Event – Nature Trail at Aarey Forest Butterfly Garden

About the event:

Aarey forest is one of the green blessings given to the City of Mumbai by Mother Nature. This time we will visiting the Butterfly Garden and nearby area.

This unique and interesting garden is developed by Mr. Sandeep Athalye in the memory of his father, who was extremely passionate about environment. He built a butterfly garden inside Aarey Milk Colony with the help of his friends and family. This is a bio-diversity hotspot now attracting over 40 species of butterflies. It is a great opportunity for Nature photographers to capture beautiful creatures as well kids to get them closer to mother nature. There is vast information available about the garden here.

The trail is open for all age groups. Children below the age of 12 yrs should be accompanied by atleast one of the parents.

The walk will be led by Gauri and Dr.Shreya and will focus on the biodiversity of the Garden and nearby area.

Charges: 500 INR (including our expertise and local transport from Goregaon station(east) & back)

Camera fee (if any) has to be paid separately by the participant.

No charges are applicable for kids less than 4 years of age. The trail is open for all age groups. Children below the age of 12 yrs should be accompanied by at-least one of the parents.

  • Cap
  • Sunglasses
  • Water (2 liters minimum)
  • Camera and binocular (optional)
  • Wind-cheater and/or umbrella
  • Wear fully covered and comfortable clothes and shoes functional to walk on non-concrete trails

About the leaders:

Two naturalists – Dr. Shreya and Gauri will be leading the walk. Both of them have been conducting such programs for more than eight years. This event is conducted through their joint venture – OikoEssence which is focused on creating awareness about environment around us.

Dr. Shreya is a true nature enthusiast. She has completed her Ph.D in ethanobotany and working in the field of environmental awareness for the last 13 years. She believes that  change is slow process but a strong step for better environment and education will certainly bring the change in lifestyles for adapting environmental friendliness.

 

Gauri is a botanist and naturalist based out of Mumbai. Having worked at World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF India), Gauri has expertise in bio-diversity (birds and plants species) and has extensive field experience in organizing nature camps.
